This substantial industrial footprint, which includes 14,000 sqm of covered facilities, positions PIM as a key player in the Mediterranean maritime landscape.
The infrastructure is designed to accommodate large-scale projects and the world’s largest vessels, featuringa 200-metre North Pier and an average draught of 20 metres.

Environmental Safeguards
Water Management, Treatment, and Reuse System
The site is equipped with a dedicated meteorological station that feeds real-time data into a control system responsible for managing all shipyard water runoff. This includes direct and indirect industrial process water, as well as stormwater runoff, including potentially contaminated sources.
The system is designed for continuous operation (24/7). All water is directed via a bypass system to two distinct treatment plants.
All process data and status signals (including temperature, pressure, tank levels, and utility status) are collected, stored, and managed by a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), allowing for the comprehensive consultation of historical data at any time.
In line with its commitment to environmental stewardship and the circular economy, Piombino Industrie Marittime maintains a final storage reservoir for treated water. This allows for the reuse of water in shipyard operations, in full compliance with the most stringent environmental regulations.
